The flip side of the NFLs quarterback crisis is its
running-back renai sance. Remember this years draft as one
of the tipping points, maybe the biggest one.Unle s you
want to pick last years draft, when Todd Gurley broke a
two-year drought of running backs going in the first round.

Elliott a team, coach's dream But this year marks a big
milestone. Its a shaky year for quarterbacks, even though
teams are almost a sure bet to reach for one or more
earlier than they should. Its generally considered a down
year for offensive talent, period, with wide receivers
getting a particularly bad rap for slow times at the
Combine.But running backs? Its different. Ezekiel Elliott
and Derrick Henry, not nece sarily in that order, are the
exception, at least in terms of recent history.And they
might not be the exception for long. Dont be surprised if
this is the long, slow, battleship-style turn from the era
of quarterbacks dominating the NFL, back to the days of
running backs being valued and respected and le s

but Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis called it last
year. A month before his induction, he said that the heavy
emphasis on pa sing would last only as long as the eras
best quarterbacks did. Right on cue, those pa sers are
exiting their prime or, in some cases, the stage
completely.The young generation behind them is taking a
fierce beating. The running backs, though, have so much
promise, they can swing the style of

back years of running backs being pa sed over in the first

T.J. Yeldon, who didnt disappoint with the young Jaguars.
And Karlos Williams, who could force the Bills into tough
choices about LeSean McCoy.Next year, add Fournette, the
LSU sophomore who many scouts are sure would have been a
first-round pick this year had he been eligible. Which he
will be in 2017. So will Georgias Nick Chubb, who some
swear was a better prospect than Fournette before his ugly
knee injury. So will Heisman runner-up Christian McCaffrey,
who has been compared to Reggie Bush.If all that doesnt
swing the pendulum back to run-heavy
